About Us

A legacy of service on Lunenburg's working waterfront

Our Story

The Boat Locker has been a cornerstone of Lunenburg's maritime community since 1985, serving the working waterfront with quality rope, rigging, and marine supplies. For decades, sailors, fishermen, and boat owners have relied on us for the gear they need to keep their vessels safe and seaworthy.

Located in the heart of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, we've watched generations of mariners come through our doors, from commercial fishermen outfitting their vessels to recreational sailors preparing for coastal cruising. Our commitment has always been simple: provide the highest quality products and knowledgeable service to keep our community on the water.

The Doug Philp Era

For many years, Doug Philp built the Boat Locker into an institution on the South Shore. His deep knowledge of marine hardware, commitment to quality products, and dedication to customer service established the chandlery as the go-to source for professional mariners and recreational boaters alike.

Under Doug's stewardship, the Boat Locker became known not just for comprehensive inventory, but for expert advice and a genuine understanding of what Nova Scotia's waters demand from both vessels and their equipment.

Mike Moreland

In 2026, Mike Moreland acquired the Boat Locker, bringing fresh energy and vision while honoring the chandlery's proud traditions. Mike comes to the business with extensive experience in the marine rigging industry and a deep respect for Lunenburg's maritime heritage.

As the founder of Ironbound Rigging, Mike has built a reputation for technical expertise, quality workmanship, and a genuine passion for keeping boats safe on the water. His vision for the Boat Locker combines the best of its historic foundation with modern innovations in marine supplies and customer service.

Under Mike's ownership, the Boat Locker continues to serve as Lunenburg's premier marine chandlery, now operating from a new location on the waterfront while maintaining the same commitment to quality products, expert knowledge, and personalized service that has defined the business for nearly four decades.
